I’m really not a movie buff… Am I allowed to say that, while at the same time work in the film industry? People say that I’m a logical kind of guy, usually, the one that keeps everyone else grounded in reality. The computer technical aspect of filmmaking is my jam. I could spend hours sitting in front of my computer studying the data of the shot and how to manipulate it. However, I learned early on that life is not just logical bits of binary code. As a kid, I would sit for hours using Legos to create vast worlds filled with adventure, vile villains and daring heroes, and also … well … beautiful, magical, mystical dragons. The same feelings of mystery were further stoked as I became entranced by the worlds of Tolkien, CS Lewis, and RR Martin. Then I grew up, learned to “adult” and that evolved into marriage and parenthood, which itself is a world that I love. But that urge to create worlds full of mystery and intrigue was still inside me, looking to be expressed. I think life has a way of bringing you full circle. As I was rediscovering my love of animation ( I studied at Full Sail before “adulting” happened), I was invited to help on a couple of really cool short films. It was there I realized I really enjoy working behind the scenes. I love creating visions that bring viewers into a different world, where they can escape from real life. Sometimes you just need to escape for a little bit, to forget all the stress, problems and pressures that come with adulting and reality. The film provides a release for people, a safe spot, and that’s why I love working in independent films. Filmmaking found me and I’m never turning back.
